The Power of 40
"Forty is a number of testing and trials, it is also the number of transformation and grace. Every trial leads to renewal, every journey to revelation. Trust the road ahead—God is guiding you through the wilderness into His promises."

Trials, Transformation, and God’s Grace
The number 40 has always fascinated me. Over the years, I’ve noticed how it has shown up repeatedly in my own life…during times of trials, loss, waiting, and ultimately, God’s patience and grace.
I started my walk with Jesus when I was 40.
I suffered the devastating loss of my best friend (who was scared to turn 40) in a car crash. I tried to drown my pain in alcohol only to find myself needing answers. Those answers couldn’t be found where I had been looking. I knew I needed something else…I honestly didn't know what I needed...I just needed help. I needed church (and by church, I mean Jesus).
I still don't have a full understanding as to why she was taken that way, but I do understand that she brought me to where I could find love and comfort until we meet again.

The Meaning of 40 in the Bible
Throughout the Bible, the number 40 appears as a symbol of trials, preparation, and new beginnings
A Time of Testing
The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years learning trust and obedience before entering the Promised Land (Numbers 14:33-34)
Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights in the desert while being tempted by Satan preparing for His ministry and ultimate sacrifice (Matthew 4:2)
and the flood in Noah’s time lasted 40 days and nights before witnessing God’s promise in the rainbow. (Genesis 7:12).
A Time of Transformation
Moses spent 40 days and nights on Mount Sinai receiving revelation before bringing down the commandments that would guide God’s people (Exodus 24:18)
Elijah journeyed 40 days to Mount Horeb before hearing God’s voice in a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:8)
Goliath taunted Israel for 40 days before David’s faith overcame fear and secured victory (1 Samuel 17:16).
A Time of Renewal:
After His resurrection, Jesus remained on earth for 40 days, teaching and preparing His disciples (Acts 1:3).
Each of these moments in scripture reflects a season of challenge followed by renewal and purpose—just like in our own lives. The number 40 represents trials, but also transformation—a reminder that seasons of struggle are not the end of the story, but the path to something even greater. Whatever "40" you are facing, trust that God is using it to prepare you for His purpose.

A Journey of Faith and Grace on Route 40
I bought an old 3 story hotel with a friend and my husband. This would be the new location of our antique store Route 40 Village & Antique Co. (located on the old US HWY 40, now known in Elko as Idaho St). This has brought on a whole new set of trials, endings, new beginnings, and me sharing my walk with Jesus.
During COVID, I had to shut down my store… yes you guessed it for 40 days. During this trying time, I asked my bishop for his advice, and he said “Follow the law of the land and the Lord will bless you”. Through God’s grace, I made enough sales on Facebook to keep the bills paid. With the spare time I was able to clean, restock and make the store nice and new for our reopening.
The more I study the number 40 in the scriptures, the more I realize how deeply connected it is to my own testing, transformation, and renewal.

This is Your Invitation to Begin This Journey
The number 40 in scripture is more than just a measure of time—it’s a powerful symbol of testing, transformation, and renewal. From Noah’s flood to Moses on Mount Sinai, from the Israelites’ wilderness journey to Jesus’ 40 days of fasting, each of these moments carried a deeper purpose.
They are seasons of refining, preparing, and drawing closer to God. As I reflect on my own first 40 years of life without Jesus, I can now see how every trial, every hardship, and every moment of searching was leading me to Him. Just as God used 40-day/year periods to prepare His people, He was preparing me—calling me to something greater, even when I didn’t realize it.
Now, I invite you to explore the significance of 40 for yourself. Take the next 40 days to seek God through His Word, prayer, and reflection. Whether you are facing a challenge, stepping into a new season, or simply longing for renewal, use this time to trust His plan and grow your faith One Verse at a Time.
